There’s a new board game on the market, just in time for the holiday season. Its creator is a Billings man who quit his day job to devote his time to his catchy creation.

Billings native Rob Ridgeway knows all about taking risks, an entrepreneur by nature, Rob said he loves the thrill of creating. “It’s about something new, seeing if you can make something happen.”

And that’s just what he’s done. Rob’s latest creation is a board game called “Spontuneous®”, and it’s becoming one of the hottest new games. It’s for sale at a Rimrock Mall kiosk.

“It’s definitely a contagious game and i think once you do play it, it will stick with you,” Rob said.

In the game, players take every day words and race to see who can sing them in a legitimate song first. Rob said the idea for the game started on a family vacation. “One person had said a word and someone busted out singing a song with one of those words in it ,and it was at that point I thought ‘gosh this would make a heck of a board game.’”

And as the saying goes, the rest is history. Soon after the trip, Rob began putting his ideas on paper, and within months he had a prototype of the game. “It was August 2nd, 2010, exactly one year to the day, that I flew out to Michigan where they’re manufactured here in the USA and signed the first 500 copies that came off the press.”

Leaving his desk job behind, Rob said he’s put his professional life on the line, but has no regrets. “I think it’s a risk worth taking. You know its one of those things where if you don’t give 100% to what you’re trying to accomplish, then you’re probably not going to get it close at least to the best of your abilities.”

No matter how successful his game becomes, Rob said the real reward comes from watching others play “Spontuneous®.” “The whole purpose of this game is to bring family and friends together and give them a form of entertainment that will last a lifetime.” A lifetime he hopes is filled with more inventions.
